ADOPTION OF TECHNOLOGY IN AGRICULTURE

World is innovating and growing at a very fast rate and because of that fulfilling demand and balancing the supply is becoming so hard. The world population is expected to grow to almost 10 billion by 2050. With 3.4 billion more mouths to feed than the current population it's becoming impossible to produce that much. Innovation and adoption of technology in the agriculture sector is rapidly and widely growing. Research and Engineers are coming up with new studies each year to get more output from small lands. The agritech startups not only helping the world by giving them resources but also the farmers to earn from the hard work they do in their fields.

Technology has given benefits to the farmers to produce more from their lands by using new methods. It also allowed farmers to turn their barren lands to fertile. Different methods are being used like drip irrigation, mapping of fields through drones, use of drone for spraying, precision farming and several other techniques to save agriculture. In Pakistan too use of drip irrigation is gripping the trend through which farmers are able to directly supply the water droplets right into the roots that is saving water and making the fields fertile. People in Baluchistan and Sindh are very happy because this drip irrigation system allowed them to grow fruits and plants on their field otherwise their fields would have remained useless.

The use of drones is also being widely used for spraying and mapping of fields. For spraying it is being used in Pakistan too that saves the time and the effort for spraying the whole field because of its speed. Other countries are taking one step ahead in using drones for mapping of fields, by mapping the fields through drones’ farmers are able to look at the yield level of their field and then they can decide what crop is best for them to grow at that specific time. Mapping also allows them to check the health of plants and know their needs. After mapping they get to know what nutrients a plant needs and what it’s lacking and then farmers can decide better alternatives to use to save their farm.

Precision farming is a very good new technique to look out the statistics of plants and then better decide what to do with it. After mapping the field from drone farmers can upload that specific data of their farm on the cloud platform and after that they can go for precision farming through which they can also see pesticides on each plant and because of this precision technique they can directly go and spray the plant that is infected. This saves the cost because farmers are not spraying whole field and it also saves the yield and the whole farm. Robots are also being used to harvest fruits to save time and also to remove weeds that causes the farms to lose their good yield levels. So, use of robots is very beneficial in order to maintain the yield level and let the farm produce best in quality as well as quantity.

Rich countries are going for Vertical and greenhouse farming to produce as much as they possibly can from small areas. Norway is taking the lead in 2nd largest food exporter and with the best quality because it is using new and updated technologies that's why its flourishing. Norway is using vertical farming because it’s very efficient. if you plant tomatoes at a small field in Spain then you will cultivate around 4kgs/sq feet while if you go towards vertical farming, you can cultivate 80kgs per sq feet so that difference is very big. That’s why adopting new technologies is a must according to the changing need of planet.

Countries should adopt new technologies to feed their people because if they stay at their current level, they will definitely have to bear a lot in the next 20-30 years. Especially South Asian countries that are dependent on agriculture but still have no innovation in it.
